Retirement Planning
Everyone wants to have “enough” for when they decide to take things easier in life and it is an important concern. It is possibly the topic that Singaporeans are most concerned with, to be addressed another day.
It is not easy for you to think about retirement when you think you have time. Moreover, you have bills, tuition and mortgage to pay by month’s end. Groceries deplete fast when you have fast growing children. Dining out is non-negotiable because that’s how you remain social. Your children may be opting for student exchange programs because they think you can afford it. Birthdays and festivals are always around the corner and before you recover from the damage of Christmas shopping, it’s Chinese New Year again.
You get the drift. We have so much to do today to worry about our distant tomorrow.
Most people think of retirement planning as antagonistic to their current lifestyle. I think differently. My suggestion is to leverage on time as the single most important resource. Should we make good use of time early, the impact to our lifestyle will be minimal. It also gives us a better chance to enjoy the lifestyle that we want, when we decide to take things easier in life.
Let’s have a conversation to better understand how we can create “enough” when we decide to take things easier in life.
